Ucf Football 2023 Schedule – Finally, the Big 12 Conference announced its Tuesday afternoon football schedule, the first featuring UCF and the league’s three other newcomers (BYU, Cincinnati and Houston) and the last featuring SEC defectors Oklahoma and Texas.

Buzz: Fans of a certain age may forget that UCF and Kent State were once in the same conference — long before the MACtion brand represented a midweek shootout. The Knights went 2-2 all-time against the Golden Flashes in 2003 and 2004 before closing out the league in Conference USA the following year. Kenni Burns will make his Kent State head coaching debut in this contest; he takes over from Sean Lewis, who accepted the offensive coordinator job at Colorado State in December. UCF plucked one of Kent State’s top forwards, first-team All-MAC selection Marcellus Mitchell, from the NCAA transfer portal.

Buzz: Gus Malzahn coached his first game at UCF in the only previous meeting between these former Group of Five carriers. Boise State went on a 10-game winning streak last season, culminating in a 35-32 victory over North Texas in the Frisco Bowl. That limited opponents to 19.5 points per game, totaling 30 shots and 15 steals. George Holani topped the 1,000-yard mark for the second time in his career and announced plans to return to Boise in 2023.

Buzz: UCF’s final adjustment before meeting the Big 12 Gauntlet is a home game against Villanova, the one-time winner of the Football Championship Subdivision national title. The Knights last faced the Wildcats in 2006. at the beginning of the season. Steven Moffett threw for 199 yards and three touchdowns and Kevin Smith added a pair of scores in a 35-16 triumph in what was then called the Citrus Bowl. Villanova posted a 6-5 record last year, splitting eight of its contests in Colonial Athletic Association play. In its only game against FBS opposition, Army defeated the Wildcats 49-10.

Buzz: TCU’s loss in the College Football Playoff, a historic win over Michigan and a blowout loss to Georgia saw Kansas State hoist the trophy as Big 12 champions. Of course, the Wildcats endured their whooping cough for Alabama’s Sugar Bowl. K-State has rushed for 3,192 yards tied to running back Deuce Vaughn, but Will Howard has added 15 touchdown passes in his seven appearances. With nine super-seniors returning, including a pair of impact players, the Wildcats are expected to be back in the mix.

Buzz: It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since Blake Bortles led the Knights to a Fiesta Bowl victory over Baylor by 17 points, but such is the nature of the times. In Dave Aranda’s third year at the helm, Baylor struggled, losing each of its last four games to finish 6-7. However, the Bears faced three of the best teams in the league (Kansas State, TCU and Texas) in that stretch. Incumbent starter Blake Shapen and Mississippi State transfer Sawyer Robertson are expected to battle for the QB1 spot.

Buzz: Kansas City has delivered one of the funniest stories in college football in the first half of 2022. campaign month. In 26 games with the Knights (25 starts), Gabriel completed 60.7% of his attempts for 8,037 yards, 70 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He holds the program records for yards per attempt (8.8) and interception ratio (0.015). Jeff Lebby, former UCF offensive coordinator, lays out the roles for the Sooners. In Brent Venables’ first year at the helm, Oklahoma struggled uncharacteristically, going 6-7 and allowing 461.0 yards per game.

Buzz: UCF and West Virginia met two decades ago, and the Mountaineers won the home-and-home series. Chris Henry, who had a five-year playing career with the Cincinnati Bengals, torched the Knights with 12 combined receptions for 216 yards and three touchdowns in a pair of meetings. West Virginia, which went 5-7 this fall, faces some competition in the opening month at Penn State before resuming the Backyard Brawl in Pittsburgh two weeks later.

Buzz: With South Florida State officially out of the picture for the foreseeable future, Cincinnati could become UCF’s mortal enemy in the league. There is plenty of animosity between the fans and the teams have also produced some memorable moments on the pitch. In late October, the Knights snapped Cincy’s 19-game winning streak against American Athletic Conference opponents and finished in the AP Top 25, tying for first place. UCF is 4-4 all-time against the Bearcats and has won just once at Nippert Stadium. Scott Satterfield is Cincinnati’s new manager after Luke Fickell left for Wisconsin; his Louisville teams have beaten Malzahn’s Knights the last two years.

Buzz: Given the consistency of the Mike Gundy-led Cowboys, this is probably a key date for UCF. Oklahoma State has had a winning record in each of the last 17 seasons, but since 2017 only once surpassed nine wins. Starting quarterback Spencer Sanders, who threw for 9,553 yards in his four-year career with the Cowboys, transferred to Ole Miss and five of the Cowboys’ top six receivers followed him out the door. Oklahoma State was second-to-last in the Big 12 in rushing yards, yards per carry and touchdowns last season.

Buzz: Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire has been rewarded with a lucrative six-year, $26.6 million contract for a successful first season. The Red Raiders went 8-5, beat Texas and Oklahoma for the first time in the same season, and beat Ole Miss in the Texas Bowl. Jones AT&T Stadium turned into a fortress; Texas Tech has won seven of eight home games. Three running backs have rushed for at least 1,000 yards, and Tahj Brooks, SaRodorick Thompson and Donovan Smith each share a team-high seven TDs.

Buzz: UCF has beaten Houston in seven of its previous 10 games, averaging 29.7 points. Dana Holgorsen made waves on the recruiting trail, earning three of the program’s nine highest-rated commitments per the 247Sports composite rankings (ATH Mikal Harrison-Pilot, WR Jonah Wilson, RB Parker Jenkins). Villanova Announces 2023 Football Schedule

ORLANDO, Fla. — The date many UCF football fans have been waiting for since the program’s inception in 1979 arrived Tuesday when they saw the Knights for the first time as part of a Power 5 schedule.
