Uc 2023 Football Schedule – The Cincinnati Bearcats football program represents the University of Cincinnati in college football. They compete at the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision level as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Since 1924 they have played their home games at the famous Nippert Stadium.
The Bearcats are over .500 all-time after reaching the program’s 600th win in 2017. The program has seen a resurgence in recent years. Since joining the Big East in 2005, the Bearcats have gone 155–75 with 14 bowl appearances, 7 conference titles, 4 BCS/NY6 Bowl berths (through 2021 College Football Playoff y.) and 38 picks in the NFL Draft, starting with the 2022 season.

College and National Football League of Famer Sid Gilman is the architect of one of the best seasons in Cincinnati football history. He led the Bearcats to three conference titles and two playoff championships in his six seasons (1949–54) before retiring from the professional ranks. Cincinnati, with Gilman developing a passing game that would see him succeed in the championships, was known for his aerial attack in the early 1950s.
During Blackburn’s tenure, in 1957, the Bearcats joined the Missouri Valley Conference, where they remained until 1969.

Oklahoma assistant coach Homer Rice was hired to replace Studley. After Rice accepted the head coaching position in Cincinnati, Oklahoma head coach Jim McGee died of a massive heart attack. After Maczee’s death, Oklahoma’s athletic director and president called Homer Rice to ask him to come back and replace Maczee as Oklahoma’s head coach. Rice has already hired his staff in Cincinnati and canceled the Oklahoma job to remain loyal to his staff in Cincinnati.
In 1968, the Bearcats were the top ranked team in the nation. Greg Cook is the NCAA champion and Jim O’Brie is the national champion. A year later, Cook won Rookie of the Year honors as a Bgal in Cincinnati. Two years later, O’Bry scored the game-winning field goal for the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V.
UC’s fortunes turned around under head coach Tony Mason, who led the Bearcats for four seasons and compiled a 25-19 record.
Big Sky Rolls Out 2022 24 Conference Football Schedules
Ohio State assistant coach Ralph Staub was hired to replace Mason, and the Bearcats were successful. Staub’s Bearcats posted a 5–4–2 record,
Staub was replaced by Mike Gottfried, who had been Murray State’s head coach for the previous four years.
Due to the NCAA’s decision to mandate 20,000 attendance for Division I-A programs, Cincinnati was moved to NCAA Division I-AA for the 1983 season due to low attendance.
Weber State Adds Western Oregon For 2022 Season Opener
Vanderbilt offensive coordinator Watson Brown, brother of legendary coach Mack Brown, replaced Gottfried, but he also left after a short time.
Long Beach State head coach Dave Curry was hired as Brown’s replacement, and the Bearcats’ struggles will return. Curry didn’t have a single winning season as UC’s head coach after a 3-8 campaign in 1988.
Murphy was able to turn things around for the Bearcats, who compiled an 8-3 record in 1993.

Minter’s Bearcats had great success, reaching four bowl games (one win) and posting six winning seasons during Minter’s tenure.
Minter remained UC’s head coach until 2003, when he was fired after a 5-7 season.
Dantonio became the first head coach in 23 years to lead a school to a winning season in his first season at UC.

Miami University Announces Its Football Schedule
Ctral Michigan head coach Brian Kelly was named head coach of the Bearcats on December 3, 2006 following the departure of Mark Dantonio.
In an unusual move, Cincinnati decided not to name an interim coach and asked Kelly to keep his job coaching the Bearcats in their franchise game.
Ctral Michigan was also preparing for a baseball game, so while Kelly was in Cincinnati preparing the Bearcats, most of his staff was in Ctral Michigan coaching the Chippewas. After Central Michigan’s 31-14 win in the Motor City Bowl on Dec. 26, most of his staff joined him in Cincinnati, where he coached Cincinnati to a 27-24 home win. Western Michigan University in the International Bowl that same year. January 6. .
Ewu Announces 2023 Football Schedule Including Five Games At Roos Field
Cincinnati’s win gave Kelly the distinction of hitting the same team twice while coaching both teams (Ctral Michigan beat Western Michigan 31-7 before that year).
In his first full season, Kelly led Cincinnati to a Big East championship berth, the Bearcats’ second 10-win season (first since 1949) and a top-25 ranking.
On December 5, 2007, Kelly was named the Big East Coach of the Year after leading the Bearcats to a 9-3 record.

In 2008, Kelly led Cincinnati to its first Big East title with wins over West Virginia and Pittsburgh. The Bearcats have never lost to a team in the Big East Conference. Kelly also became the first coach to win three Bearcats travel titles—
The Championship Bullet (Miami [Ohio]), the Barrel of Nails (Louisville), and the River City Rivalry Trophy (Pitt). The Bearcats played in the Orange Bowl against ACC champion Virginia Tech on January 1, 2009, but lost 20–7 to finish the season 11–3.
After starting the 2009 season unranked in all polls, Kelly’s Bearcats reeled off 12 straight wins to finish the regular season undefeated.

Entering the bowl season, they were ranked #3 in the BCS and faced the Florida Gators in the Sugar Bowl.
Among the honors Cincinnati football achieved in 2009 was the highest graduation rate among teams in the top 10 of the BCS rankings, according to 2009 graduation rates released at on November 18 by the NCAA. Cincinnati, ranked fifth in the BCS standings, registered a 75 percent NCAA completion rate and a 71 percent state completion rate, the only BCS top 10 team to exceed 70 percent of the plateau in the hole. He finished his season in Cincinnati with a 34-6 record.
On December 16, 2009, Ctral Michigan head coach Butch Jones was named head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats.

Cincinnati athletic director Whit Babcock worked with Tuberville at Auburn; they have been friends for many years.

On December 9, an article in the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal pointed out that Cincinnati is only 30 miles from Guilford, Indiana, the home of Tuberville’s wife, Suzanne.
In 2013, his first season with Cincinnati, Tuberville led the Bearcats to the American Athletic Conference with a 9-4 record and a 6-2 conference record.
Going 7-5 in 2015, the Bearcats were defeated by San Diego State 42-7 in the Hawai’i Bowl.

On December 10, 2016, Ohio State coordinator Luke Fickell was named UC’s head coach, replacing Tuberville.
Fickell served as Ohio State’s head coach again during the 2011 season following the departure of former coach Jim Tressel.
The 2018 season saw a much improved team as the Bearcats finished with an 11-2 record (6-2 AAC) and won the Military Bowl against Virginia Tech. The 11-win season was just the third such streak in program history.
