Troy University Football Schedule 2023 – TROY, Ala. () – Troy has officially announced its 2023 season. football schedule as the Trojans attempt to defend their Sun Belt Conference crown.
At the heart of next season’s schedule is another six-game homestand at Veterans Memorial Stadium, which includes a nationally televised Thursday night showdown with South Alabama in the “Battle for the Belt” and two tough conference matchups against East Division favorite James Madison and 2022. The Trojans’ non-conference schedule also features some tough games as the Trojans host the 2022 WAC champion Stephen F. Austin to open 2023 season and September 9. would leave in 2022 Big 12 championship at Kansas State, and on October 9 14.

The Trojans will look to build on a very successful 2022. in a season that included a No. 19 final ranking in the AP Top 25 (highest ranking ever and the team’s first postseason ranking), a 12-2 record, an 11-game winning streak to cap the second-longest season in the nation behind Georgia and a Cure Bowl victory over C -USA champion and 21st place at UTSA.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better season last year, both on the field and in the stands,” said Trojans head coach Jon Sumrall. “However, last year is in the past and in the record books, so now that we have our schedule in sight, we are excited about the challenges ahead. The Trojans’ 2022 football schedule was announced Tuesday, and the Trojans will be headed to a new division.
Troy moves to the West Division of the Sun Belt Conference as part of league management to join new members Southern Miss, James Madison, Old Dominion and Marshl. The Trojans have been playing in the East since 2019. The league was divided into divisions during the season.
Southern Miss, James Madison, Old Dominion and Marshall will join the conference as full members in 2022, according to announcements from those schools in recent weeks. But Conference USA tried to keep Southern Miss, Old Dominion and Marshall out of the league until 2023 by releasing a plan two weeks ago that included those teams (James Madison moving up from the FCS Coloni Athletic Conference and will play). Sun Belt schedule in 2022, but will not be eligible for a conference title or bowl game).
Full 2020 Troy Football Schedule Released
If the Sun Belt schedule announced Tuesday faces a potential road challenge, the 2022 Troy will face Marshall and Southern Miss at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The Trojans host the Thundering Herd on Sept. 24 and the Golden Eagles on Oct. 8.
“Battle for the Belt” Vs. South Alabama for the first time since 2019 back to midweek fixtures. October 20 Troy travels to Mobile to face the Jaguars, a Thursday night game that will be televised live on one of ESPN’s networks (start time and TV details to be announced at a later date).
Troy’s next Sun Belt games are at Appachian State on Sept. 17, at home with Texas State on Oct. 15, at Louisiana on Nov. 5, at home with ULM on Nov. 19. and Arkansas State on Nov. 26. in 2022 the Trojans will not play Coast Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, James Madison or Old Dominion during the regular season.

“It’s great to finally have our schedule, but we don’t care who’s on it because we’re going to go into the lineup every week and play with whoever’s in front of us,” first-year Troy coach Jon. Sumrl said. “I know the home schedule is one that our players are looking forward to and it also has a lot of exciting games for our fans.”
The four new teams joining the Sun Belt bring the division to seven teams each. Troy joins Southern Miss, South Alabama, Louisiana, Louisiana-Monroe, Arkansas State and Texas State in the West, while Marshl, Old Dominion and James Madison join Appachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia South and Georgia State in the East.
As a result, the Trojans’ schedule includes previously announced non-conference home games against Alabama A&M (Sept. 10) and Army (Nov. 12) and road contests against Ole Miss (Sept. 3) and Western Kentucky (Oct. 1). The Trojans went 2-2 in non-conference play last season.

In 2021, the last of three seasons under former head coach Chip Lindsey, Troy went 5-7. Sumrl, Kentucky’s linebackers coach and former Trojans assistant, was hired in December.

Alabama Completes 2023 Football Schedule With Middle Tennessee, Chattanooga
The Trojans are the sports teams of Troy University. They began play in NCAA Division I-A in 2001, 2004. became members of the football “Sun Belt” conference only, and in 2005 joined that conference for all other sports. Troy University’s athletics nickname until the early 1970s was the Red Wave. the body voted to change the name to the Trojans.
Prior to joining NCAA Division 1 athletics in 1993, Troy University was a member of the Bay South Conference in NCAA Division II. At the time, Troy’s main rivals were Jacksonville State University, Livingston University (now the University of West Alabama) and the University of North Alabama. The rivalry between Troy and Jacksonville State was arguably the fiercest of all. However, since Troy University’s move to Division I-A and the fact that Troy and JSU no longer share the same conference association, this once heated rivalry has cooled significantly. Troy has Sun Belt rivalry with all the East Division schools (Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Georgia State and South Alabama). Right now, the most prominent Trojans in all of sports is their arch-rival in the Sun Belt, South Alabama.
As a member of the Sun Belt Conference, Troy sponsors women’s varsity and women’s varsity varsity teams covered by the NCAA.

Three years later, in 2007, the Trojans crushed Oklahoma State 41-23 at home. in 2004 December 30 The Trojan football team made its first appearance in the Silicon Valley Football Classic against Northern Illinois University, but lost. The Trojans won their first bowl in 2006. December 20 New Orleans Bowl vs Rice University 41-17. The football program won five consecutive Sun Belt titles from 2006-2010, and in 2010 the run ended with a one-score victory over Ohio in the New Orleans Bowl.
