Imsa Schedule 2023 – 2023 is a big year for many areas of motorsport. It’s no different for IMSA, as the reintroduction of the iconic GTP name marks the entry of the LMDH and LMH engines into the top class of the flagship US sports car series.
But as everything changes when it comes to motor racing, the tracks they will run on will be the same as those used in 2022. The season is shortened by one round and a new race is added to the schedule.

New in the series. Indianapolis Motor Speedway returns to the top level of U.S. sports car racing for the first time since the inaugural season of the current IMSA Championship in 2014. The last top-level sports car race at the Brickyard before that was the 2012 Grand-Am.

Two tracks fall from the calendar, Detroit and Mid-Ohio. The latter has been on the calendar since 2018, and in IMSA’s previous life was the pinnacle of sports car racing, and its lap racing is welcome. Unfortunately, IMSA currently deems its facilities inadequate to host a round.
Detroit’s departure is a little more subtle. That round is a partnership with the IndyCar Championship, and the race will move from Belle Isle Raceway to downtown Detroit. While this is understood to have played a role, the biggest issue facing IMSA is that the round is on the same weekend as the 24 Hours of Le Mans test day. In the past this was not ideal, but now with a large number of LMDh cars wanting to compete in IMSA and Le Mans, it has become difficult to cope with.
The same four races are part of the Michelin Endurance Cup and the Central IMSA Sportscar Championship. Rolex 24 at Daytona, 12 Hours of Sebring, Six Hours of the Glen at Watkins Glen, Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. A few things are missing.

In addition to the racing events, the annual Roar Before the 24 at Daytona returns the weekend before the 24 Hours.
