The SEC softball schedule was announced Thursday, including all of Florida’s opponents for the upcoming spring season. Among the highlights will be Florida getting a rematch with the Crimson Tide in Gainesville in April.
Gators Softball Releases 2022 Sec Schedule
The Gators won’t find their toughest test on the schedule in March, as the first three conference games should be manageable. Home games against Mississippi State and Tennessee, as well as a trip to College Station, Texas to take on Texas A&M in between, should give the Gators time to find their groove. None of the three teams finished in the top six SEC teams last year, and Tennessee only cracked the top half of the conference.
However, when the team arrived in April, it was time. The month begins with a quick trip to Auburn, Alabama before a tough four-game stretch for coach Tim Walton’s squad. Alabama comes to town on April 8-10, then Florida visits Ole Miss on April 15-17. The team then returns home for a series against Arkansas, the second seed in last year’s SEC tournament, on April 22-24 before ending the month with a trip to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to take on the LSU Tigers . April 29 – May 1.
After playing in Tuscaloosa, Alabama last spring, Florida will begin its season closer to home in 2022. The SEC Tournament will be held May 10-14 at the Gators’ own Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

And the Florida Gators sit at No. 2 overall in the world of college softball program rankings. It’s no surprise that head coach Tim Walton’s success over the past 10 seasons and his ability to reload the roster, along with other continued improvements to the program, including facilities, is no surprise.

The results of the ranking are determined by several factors, including the success of different teams in the past decade, current success, and then forecast in the next 5 to 10 years.
The last 10 years have been big for the Florida program at the conference and national level. The Gators are one of only two teams to win multiple national championships and play in the finals at least three times in the past decade. The program won back-to-back games in 2014 and 2015 and followed that up with a five-game winning streak, the third in four seasons, in 2017. Florida has finished first in the SEC seven different seasons over the past decade.
In that same 10-year span, Florida is tied for the second-most Women’s College World Series appearances and the second-most USA Softball Player of the Year winners over that span with seven and two, respectively. Lauren Hager was the first winner of the award in 2015 and she led the Gators to their second title that year. Kelly Barnhill performed magic on the mountain in 2017 to win the second prize at national level.
Gators Begin Play In Women’s College World Series
The Gators have been a mainstay on the NFCA All-American roster for the past decade. Hannah Rogers and Amanda Lorenz are both four-time NFCA All-Americans and are joined by notable names around Gainesville such as Michelle Moultrie, Kelsey Stewart, Aleshia Ocasio, Delanie Gourley, Kayli Kvistad, Nicole DeWitt, Kendyl Lindaman and Hannah Adam. who has won NFCA All-American honors the past 10 seasons.
The Gator roster currently has three All-Americans in the ranks. Skylar Wallace had an incredible 2022 season, becoming the only known player in NCAA DI history since 2002 to have at least 70 hits (71), 70 runs scored (79), 50 RBI (53), 50 or stole more bases (52). ), and also drew 50 walks last season.
Charla Echols and Elizabeth Hightower are the other two current All-American honorees, both in the 2021 season.
